Overview Environemnt Authority

Since the early years of the blessed renaissance under the leadership of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, the Omani environment obtained His Majesty’s attention and care who advised to conserve and maintain its resources as a natural important evolving heritage to be utilized for the development plans and projects.

Vision

The ministry is keen to promote environmental awareness and enhance the concepts and requirements for dealing with the environment and climate affairs at all levels and support the principles of sustainable development through managing, following up implementation, and evaluation of the Climatic Affairs, in addition to ensuring the safety of the environment and combating pollution and preserve the ecological balance in the context of sustainable development goals, and develop business relationships of environmental and climatic areas between the Sultanate and other countries and to find areas of cooperation with the agencies and specialized organizations, and participation in international and regional conferences concerned in the environment and climate.

Objectives

  • Setting up the general policies, preparing plans and programs for protecting the environment, controlling pollution and nature conservation, and managing, following-up, implementing and evaluating the climatic affairs for better consequences .
  • Ensuring the safety of the environment, pollution control and preservation of ecosystems in the context of the various fundamental objectives of sustainable development.
  • Protecting the wildlife, conserving nature, preserving the renewable resources, and working on utilizing them for sustainable uses.
  • Monitoring and evaluating climate changes in coordination with the concerned authorities in order to maintain the integrity of the environmental, social and economic systems.
  • Develop and promoting relations in the fields of environmental and climatic affairs between the Sultanate and other countries; activating areas of cooperation with specialized authorities, organizations, and institutions; participating in regional and international conferences; and representing Oman in the negotiations and agreements related to the Ministry's functions.
  • Proposing draft laws in the areas of work of the Ministry to match the latest upgrading.
  • Contributing in developing scientific research prospects related to environmental and climatic areas, exchanging of experiences, and gathering and utilizing scientific data .
  • Raising awareness and instill the concepts of requirements for dealing with the environment and climatic affairs at all levels of society; establishing the principles of preservation of the environment and natural resources; and supporting efforts involved in achieving the objectives of sustainable development.
  • Acting on developing the Human Resources of the Ministry for achieving their objectives effectively.
  • Incorporate environmental considerations in all stages of planning and implementation of the State’s developing projects.
  • Reinforcing the principle of cooperation and teamwork between government and private agencies and the regional and international organizations.
  • Ensuring that the environmental dimension is one of national priorities in the system development in Oman.
  • Equilibrating between the development requirements and the maintenance of environment.
  • Introduce the principle of environmental management as an essential means for promoting the efficiency of development projects in all fields.
  • Caring for environment control and inspection as it is the main indicator for identifying the environmental situation, assessing the environmental impacts, and taking the necessary action to address them.
  • Build bridges of cooperation and partnership with all Arabic, regional and international aspects with respect to environment and Climatic Affairs.
  • Issuing the relevant regulations and decisions for implementing the mentioned functions.
