Overview

Each expatriate who is resident in the Sultanate must have a resident identity card. The resident ID card is an electronic card containing all essential details of its holder; it is used in several ways such as at electronic gates, and as a financial electronic wallet. It is issued for the residents whether they are employed or not-employed.

All expatriates who are residents in the Sultanate of Oman whether they are employed or on-joining status

Steps to follow to request the service

A. Process Steps:
  1. Bring all required documents.
  2. Submit an application to any of the Directorates General of Civil Status in the Sultanate.
  3. Check all required documents along with the applicant's ID.
  4. Registration; insert the data into the system and take all information for the applicant (digital photo, electronic signature and thumb impression) and pay fees.
  5. Issuance; issue the ID card and activate it by checking the thumb impression of its holder and deliver it to the applicant.


B. List all forms/applications that need to be completed to apply for the service:
  • For private sector employees: Application form from the Ministry of Manpower.
  • For public sector employees and those who are on joining status: Application Form for procuring or renewing the ID card.

What documents are needed to process

Resident employees working in private and public sectors:
  • An application form to obtain the resident card
  • A letter from the employer for those who are working in public sector showing the employee's designation.
  • A copy of manpower application form along with the original for employees in the public sector.
  • A copy of the passport together with the original.
  • One personal photo with blue background.
  • Personal attendance.

The residents who are joining the employees in public and private sectors:
  • Filling out the application form to procure obtain a resident card.
  • A cCopy pof the passport together with the original.
  • One personal photo with blue background.

Special conditions if any applicable

  • The required documents are to be true and complete.
  • Personal attendance for procurement or renewal of the card.
  • Fees payment through one of the electronic cards (smart card, pre-paid card, visa, master card).

How long will it take

Issuance of the card takes about 15 minutes as from the beginning of data registration in the system until card delivery.
